Course overview

Many employees already use Microsoft 365 Copilot comfortably to draft emails, summarise meetings and write documents. Yet much of the real work in a day is multi-step work that moves between Outlook, Teams, the calendar and Office files, and it is still done by hand one step at a time. Copilot Cowork changes this by taking on a task and carrying it out across apps: it sends emails, schedules meetings, creates documents and posts in Teams, pausing for approval before anything important. The question shifts from writing clever prompts to delegating clearly and keeping control of the result.

This course builds on Microsoft 365 Copilot for Employees, which focuses on everyday Copilot use, and moves on to delegating multi-step work to Copilot Cowork in a structured way. Learners see how Cowork works and how it differs from Copilot Chat, write complete delegation briefs, and stay in control through approvals, pausing and steering. They then practise with email, Teams, the calendar, research and Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files, set up scheduled and event-driven tasks, build custom skills, use plugins and set governance guidelines, before finishing with a workshop that delegates a project from start to finish. (2 days, 6 hours per day, 12 hours in total, Intermediate level.)

Course Details

This course builds on Microsoft 365 Copilot for Employees, a one-day course on everyday Copilot use, and moves on to delegating multi-step work to Copilot Cowork across Outlook, Teams and Office. It runs for 2 days, 6 hours per day (12 hours in total, 09:00-16:00), as lectures with labs and workshops on data from a sample company. Intermediate level. Learners use their organisation's work account with a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and Copilot Cowork enabled. The institute does not provide accounts or licences, and Cowork is billed to the organisation based on usage. Content follows the latest version on the training day. Learners take home a lab guide, sample files, delegation brief templates and a sample custom skill.

Day 1 Delegating to and Controlling Copilot Cowork

Section 1: Lab: Getting to Know Copilot Cowork and a First Task

  • Copilot Chat helps you think and draft, while Cowork carries out multi-step work across apps under your permissions

  • Give a task, follow each step, interrupt, pause, resume or cancel, and answer Cowork's questions
  • The approval dialog: check the content preview and risk level, and when not to skip approvals
  • Workshop: sort your own tasks into work for Chat and work to delegate to Cowork

Section 2: Writing Delegation Briefs That Work First Time

  • The structure of a brief: goal, context, sources, output, constraints and points to check first
  • Attach files, pick files from OneDrive and SharePoint, and reference earlier tasks or chats
  • Set custom instructions so Cowork always knows how you like to work
  • Leave the model on Auto or choose one, and set the reasoning effort for the task
  • Lab: write the same request three ways and compare the quality of the results

Section 3: Lab: Email and Microsoft Teams

  • Draft, reply, forward and send emails after checking the content preview
  • Organise the inbox, sort mail into folders and clear outstanding replies

Instructors

Frequently asked questions

How does this course differ from Microsoft 365 Copilot for Employees?

This course builds on Microsoft 365 Copilot for Employees, a one-day course on using Copilot to draft, summarise and search in everyday work. This course focuses on Copilot Cowork, which carries out multi-step work across apps, covering delegation briefs, approvals and control, scheduled and event-driven automation, custom skills, plugins and governance.

Which accounts do I need, and does the institute provide them?

The institute does not provide accounts, licences or tenants. You use your organisation's work account with a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and Copilot Cowork enabled by your administrator. Check with IT beforehand that you can open Cowork and have enough usage allowance for two days of labs.

Does Copilot Cowork cost extra on top of a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence?

According to Microsoft's current information, Cowork requires a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and is billed to the organisation based on usage, such as model responses, skill calls and browser tasks. Administrators can see usage and set limits per user or group. Check pricing details with Microsoft or your organisation's reseller.

Will Cowork send emails or post messages without asking first?

Before important actions such as sending an email, posting in Teams or scheduling a meeting, Cowork pauses, shows a preview and asks for approval. You can choose to skip approvals for similar actions, and the course explains when not to, and how to set up automations that prepare work for approval instead of sending it themselves.

Can I use my organisation's real data in the training?

We recommend the sample company files provided for the labs, so that no real emails are sent and no real files are changed by accident. If you want to try your own work, do it in the workshop sections with non-confidential data, following your organisation's policy and Thailand's PDPA.

What do I take away from the course?

You leave with a lab guide, sample files, delegation brief templates for common tasks, a sample custom skill, a draft of your team's Cowork guidelines and a certificate of completion.
