Course overview

A lot of office work is still repeated by hand every day: copying data from emails into Excel, sending forms to a manager for approval, chasing documents that have not arrived or letting the team know in Teams when a new item comes in. Organisations that use Microsoft 365 already have Power Automate, which links Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Forms and Excel into automated workflows without programming. The flows simply have to be designed properly, handle errors and keep running even when the person who built them moves on.

This course teaches Power Automate cloud flows that run in the cloud, not Power Automate Desktop. Learners start with automated, instant and scheduled triggers, build flows with Outlook and Teams, store data in SharePoint lists and Microsoft Forms, route approvals with Approvals, and use conditions, loops and expressions so flows can make decisions on their own. They then learn error handling, work with Excel Online, use AI Builder and Copilot in Power Automate to help build flows, and manage environments, sharing and flow ownership correctly. The course closes with a capstone that builds a department workflow from start to finish. (2 days, 6 hours per day, 12 hours in total, Beginner to Intermediate level.)

It does not cover Power Automate Desktop; for desktop RPA, see the Power Automate Desktop course.

Day 1 Building Automated Workflows with Microsoft 365

Section 1: Getting to Know Power Automate and Cloud Flows

  • How cloud flows differ from desktop flows and which work suits each

  • The parts of a flow: triggers, actions, connectors and connections

  • Automated, instant and scheduled triggers

  • Lab: build a first flow from a template and read its run history

Section 2: Lab: Flows with Outlook

  • Trigger on a new email, filtered by sender or subject

  • Save attachments to OneDrive or SharePoint automatically
